About Us

Mission Statement

The MetroWest Humane Society is a “no-kill” animal shelter. The animals in our care are never euthanized merely because we lack space or because the animal’s stay with us has exceeded a pre-defined amount of time.

MWHS History

The MetroWest Humane Society is a local, volunteer group dedicated to the welfare and care of animals. In 1976, a few people saw the need for animal care improvement in the area and banded together to form the society. Since then, our growth has been constant and we are proud to be considered an important part of the community.

We run our organization on a simple promise: every animal we bring into our shelter gets a second chance. Not destruction. Our work is based in the MetroWest area, but we hope to influence ALL to consider kindness when treating animals.

Unfortunately, living up to that promise is complex and costly. The population of lost, injured, and abandoned animals is growing at a staggering rate. We supply food, housing, and medical treatment to every animal that we bring into the shelter, and, as a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, we do it by relying on something only human beings can offer: heart.

Our organization provides: medical care for animals, animal placement/adoptions, rescue of injured or abandoned animals, subsidized spay/neuter program, fundraiser's, public service announcements, quarterly newsletter entitled “Paw Prints,” support to volunteers who provide foster care, support of humane animal legislation, feral cat rescue, and a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program.

Because we believe that EVERY cat entering our shelter deserves a second chance, we have many semi-feral cats waiting to be adopted. These cats were born outside and lack the social contact with humans that other cats have had. In most instances, they are non-aggressive, very smart, and wonderful. They just must learn to trust people. Our volunteers have started this trusting process with their love and devotion to these animals. What is needed now is a loving owner and a home where they can feel safe and secure. Please consider adopting one of these very special cats. All it takes on your part is patience and love. The satisfaction you’ll receive in return when a frightened animal finally looks at you with trust and love in his eyes is beyond description.
