Featured Feline
Meet Romeo Romeo was selected as one of our featured felines so everyone can get to know what a great kitty he is. During visiting hours when things get hectic, Romeo sometimes gets excited and forgets to put on his sweet "Adopt ME!” look. In fact, he just runs around all over the place and seems to forget he needs to stand still, so people can SEE him in order to be adopted! Despite his energy, Romeo is a sweet kitty. He loves to be petted and receive attention. He loves to eat. (We have found that among his favorites is plastic (!) so you have to watch out for those plastic bags, etc.) He is both handsome and unique with his stunning tabby stripes and stub of a tail that’s always upright like an antenna, earning him lots of comments and compliments.
When Romeo first arrived at our shelter he was a bit shy but in no time at all the real Romeo emerged and we were rewarded with a fun, active 3 year old fella with loads of charm and personality. We don’t know if his stubby tail was caused by an accident or if he was born that way and Romeo isn’t telling. While Romeo lives up to his name with humans, other cats - especially males - are an entirely different matter. He can be bossy, and they don't like it!
If you are looking to complete your family by having just one cat, Romeo is sure to be a really great addition. He will love you to pieces and keep you entertained. He is neutered, up-to-date on his shots, and rarin’ to go home.
Meet Inky and Binky Brothers Inky and Binky came to our shelter in early December. They were 4 months old. Prior to that they had been surrendered to another shelter as "litter leftovers" when the owner was moving. When they got to our shelter they were understandably frightened and very bonded to each other. It didn't take long for us to know they needed to placed in foster care and they have been there ever since. They are beautiful black long haired brothers and they are still best buds. Sometimes they cry for their brother when they are alone. Other times, just like little boys, they pounce on their brother and make him cry! They are really cute and funny. They get along fine with other cats though their foster mom's cats are looking at her as if to say "When are they going to leave? We want our house back".
They started out very very shy but they have come around well. They both love being around people. Binky is the most comfortable with people. He loves attention but not all the time. When it's time, (which is at least several times a day) he's very clear about it. Comes up on the bed, or couch or chair or desk and flops down (literally flops) and purrs and purrs and purrs. He loves to have his chin and ears and throat scratched but petting most anywhere is fine. Not so much on his tummy, though please, he says. Inky is the more timid of the 2 but oddly is also the braver of them. He was the first one to stay out in the middle of the room when the vac cleaner was running. He has been known to take a playful half hearted swat at his foster mom's adult male cat that is at least twice his size. (See why her older guys want their house back?)
He is still reluctant about petting though it is getting better slowly, but he loves to be with people and comes where we are in the house and jumps on the bed at night. He's a toe hugger. Binky wants to be someplace where you can reach him - at least to start - and then will move to the foot of the bed when his need for attention is satisfied. Their foster mom has a morning and evening routine of giving out a few treats. The boys know the sound of getting the treats out and they come running from wherever they are. Both boys rub and snuggle purr when they get their treats on "their bed" in the kitty room in the morning. We don't know what happened to these boys when they were little but can only presume that it wasn't good. At the very least, they were ignored. And it is a long road back to believing yourself worthy and lovable when you start out like that but we are sure they are on very firm ground now. They know about love and gentleness. And once they settle in again, we're sure they will move forward some more.
They would do best in a calm house without lots of loud noise. But as long as there is love and a place for them to go and get away from noise when they want to, they will do fine. These are basically happy, energetic and healthy little boys. They are up to date on their shots, they have been neutered and they are looking for a home together where they can grow up to be the wonderful kitties they were born to be. They do not come to the shelter for adoption hours but you can make arrangements to visit them by contacting their foster mom at jyanicke@hotmail.com.
