Feature Felines
Meet Al , he is a special guy who is looking for a special kind of home. Al was a stray who moved around from house to house, never staying in one place for very long. We received a number of calls about him but by the time we got there he had moved on again. When New England winter finally arrived it slowed him down enough for us to catch up with him and we were finally able to bring him into the shelter where it was safe and warm. And we could help him find a permanent home. End of story? Not quite.
Though Al was nervous but friendly at first, apparently Al really doesn’t like other cats and really does have a need to roam a bit. Staying indoors with a bunch of other cats is making him very unhappy and downright crabby! We are hoping to find him a situation that includes relative safety and security as well as the option for both indoor and outdoor activity. While this may be a home, it may also be a barn or “working cat” placement.
In any case, it will have to be a situation that does not include children or other cats. This adoption is going to be done differently than usual for us. It will include not only an interview and review of the application but may include a site visit as well, to assess the environment and explore the options for helping him relocate safely.
If you are interested, please download and fill out the adoption application and forward it to the shelter. We will contact you to set up an interview and site visit.
Meet Torie. Our girl Torie came to the shelter in August of 1998 when she was about a year old. She had apparently been living on the streets all her life and had not had good experiences with humans, so she didn't trust us at first. Our wonderful shelter staff and volunteers were very kind and exceptionally patient with this frightened little kitty. They spent many hours with her – petting her, talking quietly with her, and being ever so gentle. And over time she became a very friendly kitty. She loves attention and being petted. One of our volunteers wanted everyone to know that she is a TERR-R-RIFIC purrer and will some times start her motor just at the sight of a nearby friendly human. Torie enjoys other cats too, so she would prefer to have other animal companions in her new home.
Torie is a quiet, undemanding girl and has continually been overlooked at the shelter. Though she isn't a frisky young thing anymore, (and that may be a good thing!) she still has more than enough time to become your best friend and the love of your life. She will be more than happy to snuggle up ... maybe have a little "girl talk" or maybe she'll just whisper sweet nothings in your ear. We have it on the best authority that she can be very close-mouthed, so you can tell her all your secrets and she won’t tell another soul!
If you have a gentle home with a friendly cat or two for her to hang out with, please come and meet Torie at the shelter. We'll keep our eyes open for you! Please come to the shelter to meet this darling little girl during adoption hours – Sunday 1-4PM, as well as Wed. and Thurs. evenings from 6:30-8PM.
