Kids & Kats
We are delighted to be the recipient of the following projects. If kids are our future, our future looks very bright! Thanks to ALL the children that help the cats!
Spring 2007
Visit to Woodrow Wilson School and MWHS Shelter Field Trip
What do you get when you have a volunteer who loves to talk to children about pet responsibility and a request to do just that? A wonderful new association for MWHS and the Woodrow Wilson School in Framingham.
The kids (grades k-2 and 3-5) loved the visit by MWHS volunteer Christine Price as they learned about pet ownership and the MWHS cat shelter.
Christine really had her work cut out for her when she coordinated a field trip (40 kids and 8 chaperones) to our shelter. Everyone had a great time and these special students donated $241 - money they had raised from a bake sale. They also donated jars of meat variety baby food which we use to socialize the cats and kittens.
During the field trip, the students were asked to draw pictures of their pets, and we were presented with a beautiful booklet of their artwork.
MWHS volunteer, Nancy Hudson, recently visited the 7th graders of the JFK Jr. High School in Hudson to talk to them about the MetroWest Humane Society shelter.
This was part of the class's community service learning project. MWHS is very appreciative of the $40 donation for food for the shelter cats. Thank you so much.
Adam Blumenau of Holliston selected the MetroWest Humane Society to be the recipient of the shelter supplies, food, and cash donations (which totaled approximately $250) he collected in celebration of his Bar Mitzvah in April.
Adam had come to the shelter to speak with someone about the operation of MWHS and meet the residents that his efforts would be helping. Thank you, Adam, from all of the cats, for your generosity and support!
We would like to extend a hearty thank you to one of our young members, Philip Kachajian. Philip, a 13-year-old from Southborough, recently celebrated his Bar Mitzvah and selected the MetroWest Humane Society as the charity to benefit from the gifts given to him.
He used the money he received to purchase items desperately needed by the Humane Society cats, including beautiful new beds, cat food, toys, and towels and mats.
Philip adopted his cat, Dakota, from us a few years ago, and has been a supporter of MWHS ever since. He is shown here with long-time shelter resident, Binx, of whom Philip is particularly fond of, and whose cage Philip sponsors whenever he can. Thank you, Philip, from all of the cats, for your generosity and support!
Rachel Holm of Grafton, MA who is 12 years old held a lemonade/brownie sale fundraiser for MWHS and other area shelters. She raised approximately $30.00 which she is using to buy shelter supplies. Thank you, Rachel and friends, from all of the cats, for your generosity and support!
