Mona, Batman and Hamilton

Dear MWHS Staff and Volunteers, We are finally dropping you a line about the three "kids" that we adopted on October 1st. As you can imagine, we have been very busy helping these three very different personalities assimilate into our household!

Mona, Batman & Hamilton

Hamilton (who was at your shelter for a very short period of time, and to whom we still refer to as Hamilton, sometimes Hamilton HOG, as you will see why) has taken over the downstairs part of our household. He sleeps on nothing but hard surfaces: chairs, counters, refrigerator tops, computers! and eats (or tries to) constantly! He also has decided on many occasions, to challenge our alpha male and our once-feral male, both much larger than he! Other than that, he is a very docile boy that can really take or leave human companionship. Food is what he likes best! Ever see Chance in Homeward Bound?

Batman (whom we refer to as Little Grey) had the most difficult time getting used to our household. He cowered under or behind anything he could for the better part of two weeks. Finally, he discovered our elder cat, Mookie and it was love at first sight! The only time we can get to him is when Mookie is around. We generally have started referring to Mookie as "Kitty Bait". Mookie is extremely tolerant of Batman and has actually begun to groom him, for which we are grateful. (Mookie's life-long companion, Baby, disappeared in July and he has been forlorn since.) Batman is very sweet and if you can believe it, has even gotten Mona to play (into the wee hours of the night). Will wonders never cease?

Speaking of Mona....Mona is Mona and yes, we've begun calling her Mona Lisa too! Mona was very scared when she first arrived at her new home. We decided that we would isolate her in our daughter's (off to college) bedroom. She spent a great deal of time under the bed and ventured out a few days later, when the original owner of the room came home for a weekend. She allowed us to pick her up quite a few times at the beginning. That practice has been discontinued, when she decided that she had had enough of that! No surprise from her fans, I'm sure! Mona spends most of her time hanging around up in the Queen's quarters and even takes her meals up there. She does venture down to be with the riff raff when she has the urgent need to. Much to her disgust, her litter box has been moved two floors down. Oh well, it's a good way to meet the commoners.

All in all, we are discovering new things about all three of these new members of our family every day. They are all loved tremendously. We are desperately trying to keep them up during the day, so that we can get a little sleep, at night. Not sure what we're thinking. Mona and Batman love the night! I will leave this long message at that.

Gratefully yours, Frank, Diane, Danielle, Jon, Gabriel, Mookie, Yellow, Mona Lisa, Little Grey and Hamilton. - Here's purring at you!
