Spirit
We renamed him Maulkin after a strong character in a book series written by the mother of one of Gabriel's friend's. Maulkin has quickly become the most energetic member of our family, eager to become best buddies with our 5-year-old golden retriever Gator. Gator was hesitent at first and would run whenever Maulkin would attempt to cuddle, but Gator has learned that Mauklin means no harm. Also, Maulkin loves to groom Gator, often going up to Gator's neck and giving him a mini-bath. Again, this scared Gator at first, be he has become much more accustomed to it. Maulkin also had a vet appointment where the vet said everything looked great, he is at a great weight, and he is now in their computer so we will not miss his rabies shot this summer.
I must say, Maulkin's favorite toy is this "bird" that hangs down from our doorway on an elastic string. He will leap at least two feet in the air in an attempt to attack it!! He enjoys playing with it both on his own and with us swinging it for him and in the morning, will meow for us to take it out of hiding (which we do at night).
Lastly, we wanted him to have one of those scratching post/climbing contraptions, but they were a little pricy. So, Gabriel and I made one for him, complete with carpeting, out of scraps from a job site Gabriel was working at. He enjoys cuddling with Gator rather than sitting in the "bed" we built, but his food is up there, so he uses it.
Attached are a few photos of Maulkin's life with Gabriel, Gator and me. Janet, thank you so much for taking care of Maulkin until he came to live with us. And thanks also for watching him over Thanksgiving. I am sure it was great for him to see you in his new environment.
From our family of four, Jenna, Gabriel, Gator and Maulkin
