MetroWest Humane Society, Inc.

Campaign for Shelter Expansion / Sunshine Room

The MWHS ShelterThe MetroWest Humane Society is about to be transformed into a roomy, modern facility

The current shelter is extremely inadequate and doesn’t meet the standards of a modern animal-care facility. We want the animals to have the best possible environment, which will become the reality in our new building. Rather than rooms full of cages, there will be free-roam areas, with cats snoozing on sofas, perched on ledges, or gazing out of windows. Sick animals will have an isolation room with cages, and a separate air filtration system to prevent the spread of airborne disease. While the present shelter doesn’t have space for a veterinarian to examine an animal with proper equipment and lighting, the new facility will allow a vet to treat the animals on the premises in a professional and safe manner. The expansion will also enable the Humane Society to respond to more requests for visits from schools, religious groups, and others.

We are very excited about the direction we’re taking and want to involve the community in our dream. With your help, we will be able to offer so much more to the people and pets of our community. The renovated facility will be a genuine source of pride.

Thanks to the generous leadership gifts of $50,000 each from two very wonderful people, we are able to move forward with this project. However, we still need to raise an additional $250,000.

We have a deep commitment to help and care for the animals that so unconditionally love and trust us. BUT WE NEED YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT to continue this work. Let us move forward TOGETHER to make this fundraising campaign a huge success.

Mural of Love
For only $150 you can have your name, and/or the name of a dear pet, inscribed on a colorful mural in our entryway. The mural will depict a garden teeming with animals, trees, and flowers. This artistic mural will set the inviting mood for our new facility. Your $150 will buy a leaf or flower in our mural of love.

This is your local animal shelter. We know that many of you feel a strong connection to the MetroWest Humane Society. And we want that number to continue to grow. Many of our loyal members have supported us in all our fundraising efforts and none has been more important than this campaign for the shelter renovation. Please be as generous as your means will allow! Each gift, regardless of size, makes an enormous difference.

donate

Please remember, you can always donate to the Shelter Expansion / Sunshine Room Fund. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated. These special cats may be at the shelter for quite some time. Let's give them a space that will bring sunshine into their lives.

about the shelter

Many of the area shelters share the same philosophy regarding euthanasia and are no-kill shelters. Yet the MetroWest Humane Society takes this philosophy even further in that we feel semi-feral cats also deserve a second chance and we are willing to house, socialize, and hopefully find homes for the many feral cats we have living at our shelter.

Unfortunately, finding them homes isn't always that easy. It seems most people that come to our shelter have never had exposure to a semi-feral cat and are understandably looking to adopt an animal that does not need the patience, understanding and TLC that a semi-feral cat requires. The result is that many of our semi-feral cats live at the shelter for what can turn into years.

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURES OF OUR SHELTER EXPANSION IS THE SUNSHINE ROOM - for our semi-feral cats. Rather than rooms full of cages, there will be free-roam areas, with cats snoozing on sofas, perched on ledges, or gazing out of windows. This area will have lots of light, sky lights, windows and open space so they can play, climb and bask in the sun. Doesn't that sound wonderful?

There is so much yet to do and achieve, and it is truly an exciting time for the Board of Directors, our wonderful volunteers, and our new and long-term members. As always, we are deeply grateful for the continuing support of our members and friends. It is because of you that we are able to help the animals.

MWHS is looking to the future with high hopes, optimism and excitement in working with all of you in helping with the animal-related issues within our community.

If you would like to help with the shelter expansion in any way, or you can email any questions to: Karl Thober at Kthober@rcn.com.
